Black Head I was designed to provide a clean, quiet step-up stage for budget pre-amps and integrated amps which came fitted with m-m-only phono inputs.
The Black Head now incorporates a new core material of much higher quality. The results? Improved resolution, better retrieval of fine detail, tighter bottom octaves and less chance of core saturation. These combine to produce an overall gain in sonic performance akin to a cartridge upgrade. It's still supplied in the familiar 95 x 70 x 122mm black-ash-veneered Medite box, so the price has been kept as low as possible because of no new tooling.
It's an ideal choice for m-c cartridges requiring an impedance betweem 4ohms and 100ohms. Black Head II is non-inverting; it works well into any 47k-ohm input, adds 20dB of gain and it has a frequency response of 6Hz to 100kHz, +0dB/-2dB.
